SUMMER TRENDS: Pants are tipped to be a key fashion item as the weather warms into summer.

Every stylish girl knows the only way to truly find out what’s hot for the new season is to talk to the locals. Local designers create with us in mind, our lifestyle, what we love, what we don’t and what we look and feel good in.

Local boutiques fill their stores with the same recipe and Mikimi Australian Resortwear at Mooloolaba Wharf is no exception. “This spring is all about wide leg pants and cropped tops” says gorgeous Mikimi Resortwear manager and style personality Lucia Cimino.

Easily one of my favourite boutiques on the Coast, Mikimi Resortwear is filled with amazing pieces from local and Australian labels, so there was no need to twist my arm to pop in for a quick chat with Lucia for a fashion update. Girls, relax knowing all your familiar favourites will be back on the rack. Look forward to fancy flowing skirts, flirtatious frocks and of course, fabulous florals. We couldn’t possibly have a spring fling without a party of petals, could we?

What’s our pick for the season? We’re putting our money on the pants. Lucia’s advice when looking for your perfect pair of pants: “stick to the styles that suit you. When you find a style of pants that really works on your figure, you’re going to be able to keep them for a very long time”.

I couldn’t agree more. The trick to tackling trends is to stick to styles that truly flatter you. Be wary of buying into trends because it looks fab on your favourite blogger. She may have an entirely different skin tone and live in a different location with a completely different lifestyle. You be the trendsetter, wear what you love and what suits you. That’s not to say you can’t draw inspiration from others. Just think about how it can work for you, before putting it in the shopping cart.

Which wonderful pants will we be seeing in the change rooms at Mikimi Australian Resortwear this spring? Magnificent prints, basic block colours, high waisted wide legs, cropped and ruffled to name a few. “Pants are great for a staple piece, something you can hold on to and wear season after season with different accessories and tops,” Lucia said.

In fact, Lucia mentioned one of the nicest things about the boutique was that you could return months later and still find something to suit pieces you’ve previously bought.

So, why not go on a little boutique hunt this weekend and pop in to say hello to Lucia on your travels. You may just find your perfect pants, or at the very least, a new local label to love.
