Our fixation with jewels is a long standing one, for thousands of years we’ve decorated ourselves with shells, seeds, stones, feathers and precious metals. For 25 of those years’ local jeweller Vanessa Nock has been melting, moulding and custom making exquisite necklaces, rings and other beautiful things. Handcrafted designer pieces fit for a queen (or king). Bling, bling!
But let’s remember it’s not all about the glitter and gold, fine jewellery can mean so much more. More important than the sparkle (though we love it) is where it has travelled and the stories it holds. To create something of your own is to begin your story in the most special way, to be reminisced and treasured forever. Vanessa’s specialty is one of a kind unique pieces infused with love.
‘Being able to bring to life someone’s dreams and watching their eyes light up, as they see their special piece for the first time. This is what brings me the most joy’ said Vanessa.
Right now, some of her amazing pieces are travelling overseas and into the hands of the 2020 Oscar Nominees as part of their gift boxes! Each exclusive piece in the collection, has been created with its own distinctive natural gemstone, ensuring uniqueness. Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie and Renee Zellweger are a few among the recipients. How exciting is that.
Vanessa’s recent shift from working under established jewellers to launching her own label ‘Uniqueness Designer Jeweller’ has unleashed the magic, unlocking the door to her dreams.
‘Local swimwear label Veve Swimwear had a vision to create an opal bikini, to raise money for mental health’ It was an incredible project and one I felt so honoured to be a part of’ she said.
Watching Vanessa working away in her studio, you can feel her passion, her focus is on every detail, each so very important. She’s dressed beautifully from head to toe including lippy, she always works this way.
Whilst Fine Jewellery has not been excluded from the fashion rulebook, the opinion on where and how to wear it has changed. When once it was frowned upon to mix metals, it’s now perfectly acceptable. Time of day may still hold significance, but it’s not set in stone.
